Candle safety

Enjoy the glow — safely

At Bronte Beach, we want your candle experience to be as safe as it is soothing. Please take a moment to read through these simple, essential tips for burning your candles responsibly.

Top Safety Tips

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Always extinguish your candle when leaving the room or going to sleep.

  • Keep candles away from anything flammable.
Place candles at least 30cm away from curtains, books, paper, and other materials.

  • Burn candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
Make sure your candle is on a flat surface where it can’t be knocked over.

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

  • Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
This helps prevent the jar from overheating and ensures even burning.

Before You Burn

  • Trim the wick to 5mm before each use.
This prevents excessive flickering and soot buildup.

  • Let the wax pool fully melt across the top (especially on the first burn).
This prevents tunneling and helps your candle last longer.

When to Stop Burning

  • Discontinue use when 1cm of wax remains.
Burning to the bottom of the jar can cause overheating and potential breakage.

Candle Etiquette

  • Use a snuffer to extinguish your candle instead of blowing it out (helps reduce smoke).

  • Store your candles in a cool, dry place — away from direct sunlight to preserve the scent.

  • Don’t move a lit candle. Always wait until the wax has fully solidified before handling.

After the Burn

Clean out the jar with warm soapy water and reuse it — or take part in our [Refill Program ➝] for a more sustainable glow.
